Pixelated Gnomes

Some people just love pixels…

This mod is made for people who are missing 90s style games or just like pixelated style of games. Every building, every gnome, everything rendered in that satisfying chunky pixel style that makes everything feel like a lost classic from your childhood game collection.

The effect doesn’t apply to interface or in-game information texts. If you want me to add effect to them as well, drop a comment below.

And yes, Pixelated Gnomes also greatly improves performance.

Mod Settings

All settings are in BepInEx/config/BurglinGnomesMods.com.PixelatedGnomes.cfg. Or use Mod Config Manager to change them in the game’s menu.

PixelSize (default: 4, range 1 – 64)
The main setting. Controls how big each pixel block is by dividing your screen resolution. The higher the number, the chunkier and more retro everything looks.

  • 1: No effect at all, game looks normal
  • 2-3: Subtle vintage softness, barely noticeable
  • 4: Sweet spot. Classic 16-bit RPG vibes (default)
  • 8: Bold and blocky, early 8-bit era (see example below)
  • 12+: Good luck recognizing things
pixel size 8
PixelSize=8

UseFixedResolution (default: false)
Switches from the “divide screen by PixelSize” mode to rendering at an exact fixed resolution you specify. Great if you want a consistent look regardless of what resolution you’re playing at.

FixedWidth / FixedHeight (default: 320×180)
Only matters when UseFixedResolution = true. Sets the exact resolution the game renders at before being stretched to your screen. 320×180 is a classic choice, it’s exactly 1/6th of 1080p and nails that old-school pixel-art sweet spot. Go lower for more extreme pixelation, higher for something more refined. For Fixed Width range is 64 – 1920, for Fixed Height 36 – 1080.
